How to Create a French Braid Headband Easily

A French braid headband is exactly what the name implies. You basically French braid the hair at the front of your head to make it look like a headband. A French braid headband is an easy and cute hairstyle if you want to keep your bangs or hair out of your face. This hairstyle looks even better if you have bangs, but even if you don’t, it will still look great.

Before learning how to create a French braid headband, you need to know how to create a French braid. I won’t be explaining how to make a French braid in detail here, so it’s better if you already know how to do so and have some experience with French braids or even braids in general. Don’t fret if you don’t know how to create French braids. There are lots of tutorials on the internet that can help you in this regard.

Here’s What You Need to Do to Create a French Braid Headband

Step 1

The first step in creating any hairstyle is to comb your hair to remove any knots and tangles. That is what you have to do here too. If you have wavy or straight hair, you can easily comb dry hair. However, if you have curly hair that just can’t be brushed when dry, you can try braiding it when it is wet. Just remember to be extremely gentle when braiding wet hair as it can snap more easily. When it snaps, it can leave the ends damaged. Also, don’t brush too vigorously. Use a wide tooth comb or your fingers while a conditioner is in your hair to make your hair tangle-free.

Step 2

Part your hair to either side or down the middle. Do whatever you like and feel the most comfortable in. If you part it on one side, you could either braid on both sides or just do it on the heavier side. On the other hand, if your part it down the middle, you can make French braids on both sides.

Step 3

Before creating a French braid headband, you need to create a section of the hair. On the side of the hair you want to braid, start creating a section about two to three inches back from the front. Make sure you have a nice rectangular section of hair. Put the rest of the hair that will not be braided into a ponytail or bun or just clip it up. Just do anything to keep that hair away from your face so that it will not get in the way of your braid.

Step 4

Now, you can start French braiding the section of hair you created in the last step. To create the French braid headband, take a small section of hair from where your part starts and divide it into three sections. Take the right section and cross it over the center one. Now, add some hair to the center section (which was before the right section) from the right side. Next, cross the left section over the center section (which was before the right section) and add some hair to the now center section (which was before the left section) from the left side.

Step 5

Continue French braiding your hair in the same manner until you have gathered all the loose hair in your braid. Then, braid the rest of your hair normally and secure either with a bobby pin or an elastic. If you want, you can also braid the other side of your part in the same way. The braids don’t necessarily have to be perfect, especially if you have layers.

You can wear a French braid headband in different ways. For instance, you can just wear your hair down. You could pin the braid under your hair so that when you leave your hair down, the pins will not show and the headband will look really natural.

Another way to wear a French headband is to pair it up with a ponytail. Just gather all of your hair, including your braid, into a ponytail and secure with an elastic. If your braid gets bumpy, you can try twisting and pinning it up. You could also turn this hairstyle into a bun. Just twist your ponytail, wrap it around your elastic and pin it in place.

How to Create a French Braid Headband

If you want a more different look, you could braid your hair from ear to ear. To do so, just brush all your hair back and create a section at the front of your hair from one ear to the other. Then, start braiding from one ear to the other and secure with an elastic. However, this method will take more time than braiding just one side, so it is not too suitable if you are in a rush.
